Reporting for Duty Ep.1 (Pt.1)

Hello, everyone! 

After a long hiatus from blogging, your girl is finally back with a new post. 

I'm currently at Kem PLKN Sri Ledang, Johor. 

This campsite is located at the border of Tangkak and Segamat districts. It is a 2.5-hour drive from Pasir Gudang and the nearest town is Jementah. 

I came here as an accompanying teacher. 

The students are here for the Malaysian Future Leaders School (MFLS) program, a 10-day leadership training program organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. However, I am only here for five days because another teacher was on duty last week. Since the students are guided by professional coaches, the accompanying teachers have little responsibilities to fulfill. 

Enough with the introduction. Let's talk about the place and what I did today! 

 Reporting for duty at 9:00 am! 

The students were doing activities in their respective groups, so the teachers were free to mingle and explore the place.

Hibiscus, the national flower of Malaysia, could be seen everywhere at the campsite.

Today was the sixth day for the students. 

They were hiking to a stream three kilometers away. They would cook, set up tents, and stay a night at the rubber tree estate beside the stream. 

So... my first day here was actually the day where the students would be away from the campsite for a day and a night, which meant I got the entire campsite for myself (not really). Muahahaha.

The teachers went to check out the stream as well, but we went by car. (Hehe) 

The stream is named Jeram Tinggi; apparently it is a tourist hot spot. 

The road leading to the stream was extremely narrow, and the last leg of the journey was steep. 

I pressed my accelerator pedal all the way, and the car climbed up the slope at the speed of 15 km/h.

The first group arrived after their 1 hour and 15 minutes hike. 

 2:00 pm. Back at the campsite. Time for a nap.

Hello, living quarters! 

After I rested and did a bit of work, I chit-chatted with another teacher. 

Apparently, both of us were the only teachers staying at the campsite tonight. Some teachers who came from nearby schools rather drove an hour daily than to stay here. Some teachers couldn't stand the living quarters and opted to stay in hotels nearby. 

6:00 pm. Time to go look for food.

We went to Jementah and guess what we found - a night market! Hooray!

We bought lots of food, at a ridiculously cheap price (for someone who stays in Pasir Gudang). 

I also went to 99 Speedmart to stock up on snacks. 

8:30 pm. 

We have showered and eaten our fill. Time to blog, rest, and enjoy the quiet night.
